Defining the Basic Principles of Logo Design

Defining the Basic Principles of Logo Design.

In this third unit, I would like to talk about the basic principles of logo design. What is a good logo? What are the criteria for a good logo? What is the difference between a logotype and a symbol, and when to use each? In the last lesson, I will analyze some of the logos that Domestika has sent for my review.

What Is a Good Logo?

This lesson is an introduction to what is a good logo and misconceptions about logos. What is a good logo?

Logotype vs. Symbol

I will explain the differences between a logotype and a symbol and when to use each of them, or both.

Student Logos Analysis

I will make an analysis of a few logos that Domestika’s users have submitted.

Tasks

Following the criteria we discussed in this unit, analyze some logos of your choice. You could actually use the ones I tasked you to design at the end of Unit 1 or any logo of your choice.

Are they appropriate? Are they distinctive? Are they simple? Would they work better as a logotype or as a symbol?

Remember I told you about this thing I call the doodle test? Why don't you do it with some logotypes and symbols? After having seen it one or two times, are you able to reproduce it?
